Projects

East

"East" is a gorgeous home in the Knoxville, Tennessee area. It was built in the style of architect and designer Frank Lloyd Wright around 1957. The home has solid wood beam ceilings, glass walls, terrazzo floors, and 4 levels that correspond with the natural landscape. It sits on 1 acre with an unusual shaped patio off the back which has a built-in fountain. This is a one owner home which was constructed and occupied by one of the scientists on the Manhattan project. Researching the homes history, it has hosted several parties with an invite list that included noted scientists well respected in their field as well as Nobel peace prize winners.

When we acquired the home it had been vacant for 3 years. The bones of this house were incredible but a lot of work needed to be done to bring this beauty back to life. We are in the process of doing just that, taking great care not to alter the original design of the home. We are excited about the final restoration!

Mid Century Home

Belmar

Belmar is a brick Mid Century home around Columbus, Ohio built in 1962.

The home sits on 1 Acre with a 4 car garage and had been vacant for awhile when we bought it. We did extensive landscaping including building the front patio. All 4 bathrooms needed renovated including new plumbing lines. We updated all the lighting with period appropriate fixtures, stripped wallpaper, updated hardware, paint and flooring. This home was over 2800sf and we touched every inch of it!

Wayne

"Wayne" is a 3042sf Gothic Revival home built in 1862 by Charles Brendel. The back side of the home faces the Muskingham River. It is a solid brick home with stack stone foundation and horsehair plaster walls. It has 4 fireplaces, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, formal living room, dining room, kitchen, and parlor. The average window size on the first floor of the home is 8ft in height.

When we acquired the home it was filled top to bottom with items the former owner had left behind. We spent an entire year filling up 10 dumpsters and doing demo on the parts of the home that needed ripped out. It had a "jet engine" size boiler in the basement that no longer worked as well as massive plumbing and electrical issues.

This project for us is a slow one as we work on it when we are in Ohio. At this point demo is completely finished, the house is stripped and we have started rebuilding the interior starting with the kitchen.

Elm

Elm Street was a project home in southern Indiana. Craftsman style built in 1920. This one was not ours so we followed the owners wishes by not updating the exterior or updating the wood paneling. We did light cosmetics - some electrical, drywall, painting, and hardware upgrades. We also dug around in the basement and found the original craftsman front door (with the original hardware) which we restored and re-hung. Sorry, no "before" photos for this one, but the finished home is such a drastic difference! (Especially the kitchen :)

64

64 is an historic "B" house constructed for the Manhattan Project in 1943 in the city of Oak Ridge, TN otherwise known as "The Secret City".  For more details on this location please visit our blog post "Why We Chose Oak Ridge"

64 is a 2BR, 1BA home with 943sf. It has been fully remodeled with no remaining cemesto walls. The coal chute has been removed and bathroom enlarged. We did heavy cosmetics, fixed some plumbing issues and minor electrical repairs. Rebuilt the front porch and repaired the back deck along with some landscaping. We also enclosed the bottom of the porch and added a new privacy fence.

Z

"Z" is an 1870's farmhouse in rural central Ohio.  The home sits on 2 acres and needed extensive updating.

It had a small 1 room basement with dirt floor and stone foundation. The home was jacked up, brand new basement dug out and new foundation poured. A large addition was added onto the back to include a full staircase, laundry room, full size bath, and large gourmet kitchen. Large porch and decking were added onto the back as well.

On the interior all wiring, HVAC, and plaster was removed. 2 bedrooms upstairs were converted into a large master suite with full size bath. Original heart pine floors were saved and refinished. Extensive updates throughout.
